Lamborghini plans to share its expertise on carbon fiber...

Lamborghini just released news that it plans to share its expertise on carbon fiber with the Houston Methodist Research Institute to find new ways of utilizing carbon fiber on prosthetic limbs and other medical devices that might possibly work better and last longer with lightweight construction. CEO Mauro Ferrari (interestingly enough) who is an expert in nanotechnology and bio-engineering flew to Lamborghini's headquarters in Italy recently to discuss the future plans of the program.

Although carbon fiber is already being used in the medical field, car manufactures like Lamborghini have a experimenting with the material for years. The current research departments do not have the same expertise as some of these super car manufacturers already have. The ultimate goal of the program is to find “new materials that are lighter, better tolerated by the human body, and more resistant over time than those currently used in the medical field.” This is not the first time Lamborghini has worked with a medical department. They currently have ties with many medical facilities in Italy, including Bologna University.
